Dr Rebecca Meckelburg is an independent research scholar based in Central Java Indonesia with affiliations to Indonesia Pacific Research Centre at Murdoch University and the Institute of International Studies at Universitas Gadjah Mada.
Her research interests focus on Indonesian politics and social change with special focus on the study of non-elite forms of social and political organisation.
Past research projects have examined the Political Economy of Land Acquisition for Development in Indonesia and a Feminist analysis of COVID-19 and the crisis of social reproduction.
Her current research is a co-learning research study conducted with poor rural communities using local-Indigenous knowledges to develop a coherent explanation of how rural communities know and experience the everyday impacts of climate (slow onset) change.
Dr Meckelburg is a speaker at the conference session Suharto’s lingering shadow: Human rights in Indonesia and West Papua after Prabowo’s election 11:30am AWST (Boorloo/Perth time), Sunday 30 June at the Boorloo Activist Centre in Boorloo/Perth.
