James Hillier/Nordacious

James Hillier/Nordacious

James Hillier, otherwise known as Nordacious, is a Brisbane-based illustrator whose work spans pop culture, portraiture, political commentary and public art. Blending humour, nostalgia and bold visual storytelling, his practice explores the people, moments and movements that shape contemporary Australian life.

Whether creating work inspired by film, music and popular culture or responding to issues such as democracy, environmental justice, media power, First Nations justice and Palestinian solidarity, Hillier is interested in using illustration to make complex ideas approachable and encourage conversation.

Drawing inspiration from Australia's landscapes, wildlife and visual culture, his work combines playful imagery with thoughtful social commentary, often finding unexpected connections between everyday life and broader political questions.

Hillier's work has been exhibited in Behind the Lines and Best Australian Political Cartoons, and spans editorial illustration, independent publishing, commercial commissions and large-scale public art. Across all of his work, he believes illustration has the power to entertain, connect people and, at its best, inspire reflection and positive social change.
