Aleea Monsour
Aleea is an independent artist, dramaturg and community theatre practitioner from Magan-djin/Brisbane, Queensland. She is passionate about the power of theatre and the arts as an agent for change and being able to engage with people from all walks of life. She is personally inspired to engage with the stories of communities and in particular the voices of women and young people in theatre and art.
Recently she worked as a dramaturg assisting Nadia Milford with her work The Last Princess of Lebanon, a dance theatre work which tells the story of her great grandmother. In 2024 she worked as a dramaturg assisting Aurora Liddle-Christie (aka SOLCHLD) with her work Growing Back which was supported by QPAC and performed as Part of the Clancestry. This role included dramaturgical support in the development story, movement, and musical narrative for the production. Also in 2022 she worked as the Director of Metro Arts Highly successful production Where We Meet. In 2022 she worked as a Dramaturg assisting Navi Karan with her work Brown Church, a theatrical spectacle which premiered as part of Brisbane Festival at the Tivoli. In 2021 she worked as a co-creator/co-director on La Boite Theatre companies, The Time is Now and The Neighbourhood. She worked as the researcher, director, writer and producer of ‘Remembering Palestine’, a verbatim theatre project that shares the stories of four Palestinian women now living in Brisbane, Australia. She currently Tutors a creative industries subject at QUT. In 2017 she completed a residency with Ramallah based theatre company ASHTAR theatre.
She believes theatre productions are a particularly powerful tool for marginalised voices to be heard and for communities to reconnect throughout the process.
