Adam Hanieh

Adam Hanieh

Adam Hanieh is Professor of Political Economy and Global Development at the University of Exeter, and Distinguished Research Fellow at the Institute of International and Area Studies (IIAS) at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China.

Hanieh is of Palestinian origin and from 1997 to 2003 lived in Palestine where he completed an MA in Regional Studies at Al Quds University in Jerusalem.

Hanieh’s research has examined the dynamics of class and state formation in the six oil-rich Gulf Arab monarchies, and the profound impact that Gulf capitalism has had on socio-economic and political developments in the wider Middle East.

He recently published Resisting Erasure: Capital, Imperialism, and Race in Palestine (co-authored with Robert Knox and Rafeef Ziadah) and Crude Capitalism: Oil, Corporate Power, and the Making of the World Market.
